About Chaplain Joy

Chaplain Joy L. Smith, M.A.
Spiritual Mentor

A funny thing can happen on our way to  living life. A memory brings back one of my ”unforgettables.” I had survived a life-saving surgery. My lungs were all beat up from blood clots flying into them just prior to surgery. I was home, finally--on oxygen as breathing was difficult.  After nearly two years of wearing a cannula I caught myself saying these words. “God, if you heal my lungs, I will write.” What! Where did that come from? I wondered. I had never felt an urge to write, except for an occasional poem or letter (to myself mostly.) But there it was! I had bargained with God (wink, wink), which generally people are too smart to do. But guess what? I kept my end of the deal—and my lungs got well!

Getting well actually took years. I was healing from the inside out. Lots of buried emotional pain had to be reckoned with. I journaled, prayed, yelled at God (a time or two) – and read “all the books” on inner healing. And, voila! It worked.

I write knowing that taking care of one’s body, mind and spirit gives the best chance for health and happiness. My desire to help people further their growth emotionally and spiritually, even to gain exuberance, cheerfulness and hopefulness, keeps me writing. Life can be hard. At times we need help identifying what hurts us most and to know how to get to the other side of our problems. We want to follow our dreams. Having gained a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in theology, these two fields prepared me for effectively following my dream: To do what I could to help others within the struggles of life that we all do experience.

Although two websites Healing-with-Joy.com and Healingwithjoy.blogspot.com are reaching readers in many countries, being “Mom” to three grown sons thrills me most in life.  Also, feeling “alive and well” truly matters!

Alongside all these blessings of life I am fortunate to offer these books.  Please click to learn more about each title.
